ECAT is the test commonly used for getting admission into the University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Lahore or its allied colleges. Many other public sector institutions such as University of Punjab, UET Taxila, BZU Multan, Islamia University Bahawalpur and several private institutions also need Combined Entry Test conducted by UET Lahore as a pre-requisite.
University of Engineering & technology (UET) Lahore conduct the exam test based on four major subjects ; Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English. Chemistry can be replaced by statistics or computer science. Candidates after completing FSC Pre-Engineering or equivalent (A-Level) can appear for ECAT test.
UET is making ECAT more difficult every year so that only talented students can score more than 300 out of total 400 marks. Use of Calculators in examination hall is probated. The ECAT format for UET and its associated colleges is as follows,
- Mathematics ( 30 mcqs )
- Physics ( 30 mcqs )
- Chemistry ( 30 mcqs )
- English ( 10 mcqs )
Total MCQs = 100
Time allotted = 100 mins.
There is a negative marking in ECAT with every correctly answered MCQ scoring 4 marks, wrong answer -1 mark and skipped MCQs with 0 marks. This means that if an applicant has answered 40 correct MCQs, 40 wrong MCQs and 20 blanks (no answers); he/she would earn the following marks:
40 x 4 + 40 x (-1) + 20 x (0) = 160 – 40 + 0= 120 marks out of maximum 400.
